BERLIN MUSEUMS

Berlin Museums - Museum Island (Museumsinsel) is the name of the area where most of the major Berlin Museums are located. Berlin has more than a hundred and seventy museums and collections offering everything from the ancient to the ultra-modern. Most museums are closed on Mondays. Museum Island is a collection of museum buildings including The National Gallery, The Old Museum, The Pergamon Museum and The Bode Museum.

The National Gallery is a modern building built in the 1960s. Its collection specialises in works from the 19th and 20th centuries as well as international contemporary art and it is famous for its collection of French impressionists. The Old Museum hosts eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth century paintings and statues. The Pergamon Museum is divided into five sections covering a range of exhibits including antiquities. The Bode Museum has exhibits of Byzantine and early Christian relics.

The Pergamon is Berlin's main with three outstanding collections under one roof. These are the Antiquity Collection, the Museum of the Near East and the Museum of Islamic Art.

Recently restored, the Old National Gallery contains paintings and sculptures from the nineteenth century. Free admission on Thursday afternoons.

Berlin’s oldest museum with a permanent display of aniquities.

Bode Museum

The Bode Museum houses collections of sculpture collection and Byzantine art.

One of Berlin’s most popular attractions. Offers a journey through Berlin’s history from 1237 till the fall of the Berlin Wall. Divided into twenty-five theme rooms. Guided tours are available every hour.
